The country's largest lender, State Bank of India (SBI), plans to recruit around 3,500 officers to strengthen its operations and improve service delivery across the country. SBI Deputy Managing Director (Human Resources) and Chief Development Officer (CDO) Kishore Kumar Poludasu told PTI in an interview that the bank recruited 505 Probationary Officers (POs) in June and is in the process of filling an equal number of vacancies.
Regarding Specialist Officer recruitment, he said that around 1,300 officers have already been selected to handle the IT and cybersecurity sectors. Additionally, advertisements have been issued for 541 PO vacancies. Applications have already been received. PO recruitment is conducted through a three-stage process: preliminary, main examination, and a psychometric test and interview. Additionally, he said, "Recruitment of approximately 3,000 circle-based officers is being considered. This process should be completed in the current financial year."
SBI Chairman C.S. Shetty announced recruitment for 18,000 positions
Earlier this year, SBI Chairman C.S. Shetty announced that the total recruitment would be approximately 18,000 across various categories within the bank. Of these, approximately 13,500 would be clerical positions, and the remaining would be probationary officers and locally based officers.
In the first quarter, SBI announced the recruitment of 13,455 junior associates and 505 POs to improve customer experience at its branches across the country. Poludasu also said that the country's largest lender has formulated a strategy to promote gender diversity, aiming to increase its female workforce to 30 percent within five years.
He further said, "If we talk about frontline employees, women constitute about 33 percent, but overall, if you look at it, they constitute 27 percent of the total workforce. Therefore, we will work towards improving this percentage to further improve diversity." He said that the bank is taking steps to bridge this gap and achieve its medium-term goal of 30 percent women in its workforce.
SBI has a total employee strength of over 2.4 lakh, the highest in any organization in the country and the highest in the banking industry.
He further said that the bank is committed to creating a workplace where women can thrive at all levels and, through targeted programs, SBI promotes leadership, work-life balance, and respect in the workplace. Highlighting some of the women-centric measures taken by the bank, Poludasu said that the bank provides crèche allowance for working mothers, runs a family outreach program, and offers training programs to support female employees returning from maternity leave, vacation, or extended sick leave.
Furthermore, he said that 'Empower Her' is a flagship initiative aimed at identifying, mentoring, and grooming women for leadership through structured leadership labs and coaching sessions to increase the representation of women in leadership roles and build a strong pipeline of future top women executives.
