A month ago, a 12th-grade student, Divya Kumari, was slapped by the principal of Garhwa district in Jharkhand for wearing slippers to school. According to police, the student died while undergoing treatment at the hospital. The incident occurred due to her not following the school's dress code.
Ranchi/Garhwa: A heartbreaking incident has occurred in Jharkhand's Garhwa district. The school principal allegedly slapped a 12th-grade student. A month after the slap, the 12th-grade student died during treatment. The student's only mistake was that she had come to school wearing slippers instead of shoes, violating the school dress code.
What is the whole matter?
According to police officials, the incident occurred on September 15th. Student Divya Kumari attended the school assembly wearing slippers. Draupadi Minj, the school's principal-in-charge, allegedly scolded and slapped her for disobeying the rules. Initially, the student appeared fine, but later fell ill due to depression. She was first admitted to a hospital in Daltonganj, from where she was referred to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi. She died during treatment on Tuesday.
Family members allege mental torture
Following Divya Kumari's death, her parents filed a complaint against Principal Draupadi Minj at the Bargarh police station. Angry family members and villagers blocked the main road at Tehri Bhandaria Chowk with Divya's body and shouted slogans against the school management. The protesters alleged that Divya's death was due to mental harassment by Principal Minj. They demanded the principal's immediate arrest.
The road was blocked for three hours
The road blockage disrupted traffic for more than three hours. Police and district administration officials arrived at the scene upon receiving information and, promising action, persuaded the protesters to lift the blockade. The principal declined to comment on the matter.
