Kathmandu: Amid intensifying protests led by Nepal’s Gen Z activists, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is reportedly considering travel to Dubai, citing medical treatment as a possible reason. This development comes after the government rescinded a sweeping ban on social media platforms—including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube, and X—in response to mounting public outrage.
Sources close to the Prime Minister said a private carrier, Himalaya Airlines, has been placed on standby to facilitate the potential journey, reported India Today. Meanwhile, acting responsibilities have already been delegated to the Deputy Prime Minister, as more ministers continue to resign from the Cabinet.
Prime Minister Oli has also issued a written appeal calling for calm and dialogue, announcing an all-party meeting scheduled for 6 pm today to seek a constructive path forward:
“I am in dialogue with the relevant parties to assess the situation and find a meaningful conclusion. For that, I have also called an all-party meeting at 6 pm today. I humbly request all brothers and sisters to remain calm in this difficult situation.”
The government’s legitimacy faces growing pressure after violent clashes on Monday left at least 20 people dead and over 300 injured
