Jeremy Clarkson admitted he fears for his safety after it was announced a right-wing commentator had been shot and killed in the United States on Wednesday. Conservative activist Charlie Kirk has died aged 31 after being shot at a campus event in Utah. Kirk - an influential ally of President Donald Trump - was known for holding outdoor debates on campuses across the US. Police are still looking for the attacker and are going "building to building" to evacuate people - a suspect was taken into custody but later released. One video shows Kirk being asked about mass shootings before the shot was fired.
Jeremy, 65, has shared his fears as he took to social media and revealed that for the first time in his life he is truly "frightened". The former Top Gear presenter was inundated with messages from fans on social media after he made the devastating admission. The Clarkson's Farm star is also a columnist and is often vocal about political issues within the UK and across the Atlantic.
Taking to X on Wednesday evening the former Grand Tour presenter penned a candid message.
He wrote: "For the first time in my life, I'm genuinely frightened about being a newspaper columnist."
His post racked up over 40,000 likes in a matter of minutes as his 7.9 million followers reacted to the post.
One wrote: "These are scary times to live in. So many have lost their values, they have no restraint."
Another remarked: "Stay safe. Quit the paper and make farm content. Good luck."
A third commented: "Say what you genuinely think Jezza ...we all need to stand for something or we fall for everything."
"What have we become," a fourth added.
Kirk's organisation, Turning Point USA, has released a statement confirming the activist's death.
"It is with a heavy heart that we confirm that Charles James Kirk has been murdered by a gunshot," the statement reads.
The statement offered condolences and prayers for Kirk's family and loved ones, asking the public to respect their privacy.
