The Office star shares what they never could've predicted while filming new show

A star of the forthcoming comedy series has revealed a chilling coincidence that only came to light after filming concluded.

The Paper is a fresh mockumentary-style sitcom, a spin-off from the American adaptation of The Office.

It's the brainchild of Greg Daniels, one of the co-creators of the US version, who reimagined Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's original concept for an American audience.

It quickly became a cherished comedy in both the US and the UK. Speculation about potential spin-offs and reboots has been rife for years, but nothing ever materialised.

However, over a decade later, a brand new show is poised to carry on its legacy. The premise of The Paper suggests that the same documentary crew that shadowed the employees of Dunder Mifflin are back with their new subject, a local newspaper in a city in Ohio.

Naturally, the show underscores the significance of journalism, reports the Mirror.

Oscar Nunez, a returning cast member from The Office, will reprise his role as Oscar Martinez. The last time viewers saw Oscar, his character was launching a political campaign.

Ahead of the show's debut, the actor was asked for his thoughts on this topic. He was questioned whether it resonated with him during the making of the show, particularly given the current global political unrest.

In an exclusive chat with the Daily Mirror, he revealed: "When did we shoot this? Was our fearless leader ( Donald Trump ) in office yet? I don't know, but yeah, it's poignant now. And I don't know, we'll see what happens, but yes, it's strange times we're living in right now."

When questioned about the contrast between The Office's finale and The Paper's premiere, and whether lessons should be learned from the fact that the newspaper in the new show is literally called The Truth Teller, he passionately stated: "I mean it was such a different place than it is now, such a different place."

He went on to say: "The stuff we are dealing with in the States is mind-boggling - mind-boggling. Never in a thousand years, never in a thousand years would I think I'd be thinking of leaving the country that my parents fled to because of political reasons. We'll be back in 10 minutes, smoke 'em if you got 'em, guys."

Oscar also gave a glimpse into what it was like on the set of The Paper. He shared how he found it easy to step back into the character he had previously played for nine seasons, saying: "It was pretty easy. I was there observing and seeing the new cast and if they had questions or whatever and I was happy to to help.

"It was pretty seamless. The new cast asks you for advice on how to approach this kind of show. Sometimes, I give a little... I was happy to be there. It's nice to see them so excited because I was like, Oh my God, that was me. It's been a great experience."

The Paper is streaming on Sky Max and NOW from September 5.
